You Didn't Know (Birds)

I never thought of the end
Or even the beginning
Some people just fall into your life
And you’re never grateful that they never leave

You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we loved you
You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we needed you

We didn’t mean to forget
We just didn’t know how to say
All the words you were never afraid of
All the words we’re thinkin’ today

You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we loved you
You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we needed you

And now our hearts
They’re breakin’
And now, my God,
You’ve been taken
You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we loved you
You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we needed you

You didn’t know I loved you, no, no
You’ll never know I needed you
You didn’t know I loved you, no, no
You’ll never know I needed you

You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we loved you
You didn’t know, no
You didn’t know we needed you

I Can't Help Missin' You

I can't help missin' you
Sometimes I feel so weak
And maybe it's five am
But I haven't got much sleep

You're probably drinkin' coffee while I'm dwelling on the blues
But baby sometimes I just can't help reliving you

You are that stuttering
In a car that just won't start
You are the swollen scars
On my empty heart

And my phone just sits there silent and I just want to make that call
Damn, these feelings just don't make any sense at all

You don't mean anything
More than a boy who wasted time
Sometimes I just want to scream
'Bout the way you haunt my mind

You're probably strumming your guitar to a girl fallin' for you
But baby sometimes I just can't help wanting you

Don't you just want to break?
Just fall for me?
I've been so damn patient
With the secrets you keep
I watch your eyes, I hold your name
Baby, I just can't help missin' you

I can't help missin' you
Yeah, I feel so lonely now
Living in faded pasts
Don't make sense anyhow

You won't miss me and I know you won't call
Missin' you don't make any damn sense at all

But I can't help missin' you.

We're Left Waiting

In a dark black night
It’s cold, so I press against your chest
And bury my nose
Into a jacket soaked in gray city sweat

And we
Belong
In such a place much farther than here
But in
This street
Those grassy worlds can’t be near
And so
We wait
On time, on love, on distant dreams
And so
We’re left waiting

This college beer town
Stains our eyes in painted red lights
We’re holding hands
To fight the crowds of all lost fights

You break us through
The smell of cigarettes bites my face
We jaywalk the street
Each step a drunk-set cold-rushed pace

And we
Belong
In such a place much farther than here
But in
This street
Those grassy worlds can’t be near
And so
We wait
On time, on love, on distant dreams
And so
We’re left waiting

And the cabs won’t stop and the cars all rear
Back on us, honking in our ears
You wait on me, I clutch your hand
And now my dress is held in your wool again
I know there’s more, atleast you’re near
And we’re just left waiting here
And we’ll just wait here.

And we
Belong
In such a place much farther than here
But in
This street
Those grassy worlds can’t be near
And so
We wait
On time, on love, on distant dreams
And so
We’re left waiting

Still

It's been two years
And things ain't been the same
I cry your name
In the dark, to stars, late at night
And now it's cold
I guess the leaves still fall the same
But I still miss your face

When you'd laugh
I'd laugh too
I'd follow you
To any dark shadester stoner home
And in the smoke
We brought past to their knees
Now these memories
Can't help but bring me down

It's been two years
And things ain't been the same
I cry your name
In the dark, to stars, late at night
And now it's cold
I guess the leaves still fall the same
But I still miss your face

In that dorm bed
We were only friends
We never held our hands
To the bonds they expected from us
And still I ask
Could you have held in more?
But now these closing doors
Only show me glimpses of what could of been

It's been two years
And things ain't been the same
I cry your name
In the dark, to stars, late at night
And now it's cold
I guess the leaves still fall the same
But I still miss your face

Keep On Waiting [Rewrite #1]

You've got everything you've ever wanted, sitting in one beat-up old red Ford
You're too busy looking in that rear view, to realize you've got all you're lookin' for.
I'm watching all this gravel settle on me, on the front porch of what you call home
Waitin' on the man I once bragged about, to be here but to leave me all alone

You used to swear you were the lucky one, I could tell in the way your blue eyes shined
Now I feel I'm always looking behind me, waiting for that girl to cross your mind

She was a fast thing, a one time fling
Turned forever in your mind
I'm here now, but there's no tellin' how
Long I'm gonna keep waiting
She was a heartbreak, a big mistake
You can't stop talking about
I'm here now, but there's no tellin' how
Long I'm gonna keep on waiting
How long are you gonna leave me hanging?

You're sending me down old 29, singing songs that you used to sing to me
Now I feel like there's nothing on this road, but the remains of your broken memories
I know now, if I walked away you may chase me, you may swear to walk the line
But if this all you have ever wanted, why is it only on your drunken time?

I feel your past's shadow overhead now, falling on your yard--it's about to pour
The dogs are barkin', and you're just talkin', about someone who's not around anymore.

She was a fast thing, a one time fling
Turned forever in your mind
I'm here now, but there's no tellin' how
Long I'm gonna keep waiting
She was a heartbreak, a big mistake
You can't stop talking about
I'm here now, but there's no tellin' how
Long I'm gonna keep on waiting
How long are you gonna leave me hanging?

Bring Me to You.

Wrapped up in just a tee
Laughing at you laughing at me
Standing in the doorway to my bed
Pictures hangin' on the walls
But I'm hanging on your words
The smile's the hook, line and sink on a look
I guess these are broke down walls
And maybe the light held you just right
And maybe it's the falling words you said

I lied
On crumpled sheets, on empty lines,
In your heat
I found
Something I knew
And now I can't breathe in your moment with me
And now I'm loving what you do
You bring me to you

Perhaps when we look back
We'll appreaciate this past
Standing in the doorway to my bed
I couldn't stop that smile
I couldn't hold you in
Your hands were the line, I sang through the passing of time
I guess you were the song stuck in my head
And maybe we loved a little too loose
And maybe these lyrics can say it right.

I lied
On crumpled sheets, on empty lines,
In your heat
I found
Something I knew
And now I can't breathe in your moment with me
And now I'm loving what you do
You bring me to you

These Waves.

I haven't felt this sun before
Who knew you held it in your arms?
This relief, this post-breaking point
Brings me singing ot my knees

A sense of glow warms my skin
Just like I'm laying on your beach
I'm lying in your sands, your hands, your pull
This could be a perfect memory

These waves
I kept floating in between
Now I'm high on salty foam
Now I'm breaking in the reach
Of these waves
And I finally found my peak
Please don't let this perfect power
Come crashing down on me
These waves

This moment reflects in your light
As if I'm underneath the sea
A billion sparkling dips and dives brought me here
Brought me to fresh air, untangled from the reef

These waves
I kept floating in between
Now I'm high on salty foam
Now I'm breaking in the reach
Of these waves
And I finally found my peak
Please don't let this perfect power
Come crashing down on me
These waves
Lights, clear
His eyes are begging for answers
They question, they ask
They beg for anything
For a something that I don't know
I look away
I can't keep my gaze
His eyes--they flash
Into my very empty soul
I can't even answer my own eyes

They keep looking within me
But I'm so nervous
I shake in the stares
I stutter int he silence
Beg me, beg me, beg me again
I have no answers for empty prayers

He listens
My hands crease the lines and my sweat smears the ink and I can't think
Only read as blank as the paper
A break--another--
My breaths--they stagger--
I take--each word--
It's isolated--alone.

I took this whole piece and I lost its peace
I broke it into pieces
It'll never be whole

If only I knew how to answer
His eyes
If only I knew how to answer
His eyes
If only he'd give me his answers instead of his questions and if only I could let go of my own two feet
I don't know how to speak--or stand.

Now I'm shaking hands, praying in pats
On the back for "good job," "well said," and "well spoken"
I did not give you answers and I did not give you questions
I just saw his eyes

Our Song.

You're wonderin' if you belong
And I feel like I'm fighting your past
You don't want us to be another sad song
But baby, I feel we're burnin' like a match
You broke down these words
My lines have all dried
Now you're wonderin' if you should say goodbye

Maybe this isn't like the movies
Maybe we won't find our happy end
But you sing all the slow songs, in the dark, when I feel wrong'd
That let me know nothing's too bad
Can't you just sing it again?

You know there's nothing as cold
As an empty pen, bed, and a bottle of Jack
You and I, we've only had songs to hold
when we're lying down what all we can't take back
You're lost in a dark laugh
I'm smilin' under covers
Why are we so lost in old lovers?

Maybe this isn't like the movies
Maybe we won't find our happy end
But you sing all the slow songs, in the dark, when I feel wrong'd
That let me know nothing's too bad
Can't you just sing it again?

And so what if our song brings us to our knees?
So what if all these old lines don't have everything we need?
We're moving someone, something
I'd rather hurt than not feel anything

Maybe this isn't like the movies
Maybe we won't find our happy end
But you sing all the slow songs, in the dark, when I feel wrong'd
That let me know nothing's too bad
Can't you just sing it again?

Back

I guess I can't write you letters anymore.
I've been praying for months for you to walk through my door
But now time that matters still
Doesn't matter to you

I could try to stand, try to walk out this room
But my bed just keeps screaming you
And why would I want to try again?
You're the only one who knew

And the songs just keep playing
I thought I was meant to be with you

Why can't we go back?
Try to take this all way
The 10 months are all the past
And I don't know what to say
I know I want to make this last
Why can't we go back?

I woke up with those songs in my head
And I woke up without you laying in my bed
But I don't know how to apologize
And now I'm on my knees

Too bad for pride, I thought it was so true
And now I'm sitting alone, thinking about you
Replacin' ain't an option
And now I'm on my knees

You broke me down so bad
You gave me what I need

Why can't we go back?
Try to take this all way
The 10 months are all the past
And I don't know what to say
I know I want to make this last
Why can't we go back?

Can't you just say for love's sake this wasn't a mistake?
Why can't you hold my hand, take all this away?
Why can't you just please forgive me?

Why can't we go back?
Try to take this all way
The 10 months are all the past
And I don't know what to say
I know I want to make this last
Why can't we go back?

Goodbye

It's not even like we said goodbye.
It was a "see you later," kiss on the cheek, airplanes flying by
It's not like we had a fight
A move your things, pack your bags, get out of my sight.
It's a far away, long time, maybe someday, goodbye.

I wrote some words down for you.
I broke pain into tears, just hoping for your voice
I guess I'll never get to hear
The "I don't love you," maybe some closure, could make things clear.
It's a far away, long time, maybe someday, goodbye.

I don't know what anything means without your name
Engraved, on my brain, every day
I don't know how to move on or move forward or what we are
When you're so damn far away
This long distance, it's insisting, that I missed it
And I miss you, but I had to, say goodbye.
Yeah, goodbye.

I could sit on here all day
Laptop buzzing, phone just charging, hearing nothing anyways
I could keep trying to call
But it don't even ring and machine just sings, "No one's here at all,"

I could go to your mother's
But who wants to say, I don't know why, I'm so sorry, one more time?
I could go to my mom's
But she keeps asking, why'd you do it, where is he, and why say goodbye?
It's a far away, long time, maybe someday, goodbye.

I don't know what anything means without your name
Engraved, on my brain, every day
I don't know how to move on or move forward or what we are
When you're so damn far away
This long distance, it's insisting, that I missed it
And I miss you, but I had to, say goodbye.
Yeah, goodbye.

And maybe if I scream your name
And maybe if these tears come down one more time
You might actually say, you need me, you miss me
And you're coming home
To stay.

I don't know what anything means without your name
Engraved, on my brain, every day
I don't know how to move on or move forward or what we are
When you're so damn far away
This long distance, it's insisting, that I missed it
And I miss you, but I had to, say goodbye.
Yeah, goodbye.

I don't know what anything means without your name
Engraved, on my brain, every day
I don't know how to move on or move forward or what we are
When you're so damn far away
This long distance, it's insisting, that I missed it
And I miss you, but I had to, say goodbye.
Yeah, goodbye.

It's moving.

Electric lines bring you to me
So close, you're here now
And when lines fade, you don't fade away
Unbelievable, I don't know how
So I love you through the ink I send
I send the letters down into sand
A hole can't be filled, the sand is sinking now
And tonight I feel your hands

So tell the sand my broken heart
Tell the sand to send you home
I'm sick of hearing out my lonely heart
At least time is moving
At least time is moving
It's moving, days pass away

It's home, it's here, that you need to feel
It's home, where you need to be
It's home, and I need you here tonight
It's home when you're what I'm feeling
I need your hat, I need your words
I need your voice to touch me
I can't believe what I'm feeling now
It's almost like you never left here
So I fake the smile day to day
I keep myself busy
To count and pass the days away
Until you won't have to miss me
Counting, it gets old with time
But at least I know time's moving
And dirt roads pass the pain away
To a time when I wasn't lonely

So tell the sand my broken heart
Tell the sand to send you home
I'm sick of hearing out my lonely heart
At least time is moving
At least time is moving
It's moving, days pass away

It's so close to the holidays
And I wish I could let it be
Hide in my home, hide from it all
Until missing becomes knowing
I break myself down into lines
Into bottles with no ending
I pray for you to see a day
When missing becomes knowing
Counting, it gets old with time
But at least I know time's moving
And faded photographs pass the pain away
To a time when I wasn't lonely

So tell the sand my broken heart
Tell the sand to send you home
I'm sick of hearing out my lonely heart
At least time is moving
It's moving, days, they pass away
